Andrew Furey says he will establish a Chief Economic Recovery Officer within the first 100 days as premier, should he be elected.
He’s up against John Abbot, vying for leadership of the provincial Liberals.
According to a Monday morning release, Furey indicates the Chief Economic Recovery Officer would focus purely on the economy and function much like the Chief Medical Officer of Health.
The ‘Premier’s Economic Advisory Team’ would develop ideas to address economic growth, job creation, diversification, debt management, and strengthening the province’s fiscal position. That, to allow the Department of Finance to focus on the province’s day-to-day operations.
Furey indicates that working with the federal government is crucial, he intends to look to local expertise for an “all hands on deck approach.”
