Over $66-million is being put up for the Newfoundland and Labrador COVID-19 Essential Worker Support Program.
The province is providing $13.8-million of the total to the federal program.
Premier Dwight Ball and Finance Minister Tom Osborne rolled out the details on a program that has been in the works since early April.
The funding is a taxable benefit for employees and ten per cent will go to the employer for the Mandatory Employer Related Costs (MERC).
Minister Osborne says the payments will be in the bank accounts of qualified recipients by July or August.
He says to determine whether an individual qualifies for compensation, they must fall within a certain range of hours and income during the 16-week eligibility period.
The period is between March 15 and July 4, 2020.
The application process is to be done by the employer. They will apply on behalf of their employees.
