Politicians—at least most of them—gave the country’s second-longest serving Premier a standing ovation on this, his last day as Premier in the House of Assembly.
The House will not sit again until after the new Premier—either John Abbott or Andrew Furey—is sworn in.
Protocol dictates that MHAs sit instead of stand, but they broke that at the end of Question Period to give Dwight Ball a standing ovation—all except Eddie Joyce.
The Independent MHA and Ball were once good friends but all that changed when he ended up out of cabinet and caucus after being accused by colleague Sherry Gambin Walsh of harassment.
Lieutenant Governor Judy Foote, who was at the House to close the 49th General Assembly, thanked all members, especially the Premier. She said he led us through very difficult times and did his very best.
