RCMP are so far declining to say if they had any previous dealings with those involved in last week’s fatal shootings in Grand Falls-Windsor.
The separate incidents occurred on Wednesday and Friday of last week at two homes, leaving two people dead, one in stable condition, and another charged with first-degree murder.
RCMP briefed media yesterday on their investigations, saying both tragedies were incidents of intimate partner violence.
But they would not say if the people were known to police, or whether they had responded to any calls at those homes before.
Superintendent Paul Peddle spoke of the palpable grief in the community, but also the frustration with often arriving too late to help.
“The unfortunate part is a lot of the time it’s a reactionary thing. We find in a lot of cases we have no previous history and unfortunately we arrive at a scene to come upon a tragedy that we had no idea about before, and that’s the frustrating part about it,” he said. “It’s very difficult for the families, the victims, the community, first responders, and right now our hearts and thoughts are with everybody in that area with everything that’s happened in recent weeks.”
