A Harbour Grace woman is due to appear in court tomorrow on eleven counts of fraud under $5000 dollars, two counts of identity fraud and ten counts of failing to comply with a court release order following a lengthy police investigation into an alleged puppy scam.
25-year-old Brittany Osborne was arrested Friday afternoon following a police investigation that began last fall following a number of reports of fraud from people across Canada.
The alleged victims reported that they were contacted by Osborne while seeking certain breeds of puppy. They were asked to send a deposit, ranging from $300 dollars to $700 dollars via email transfer, and in return, the accused texted them a picture of a hand-written receipt.
Police say in two cases, Osborne used identification, including a passport photograph and a Canadian Kennel Club Certificate, belonging to another person, to identify herself to the victims as being a legitimate dog breeder.
The promised puppies never materialized.
A search warrant was executed on Osborne’s home last week and a number of hand-written receipts were located.
Anyone who suspects they were a victim and received a similar receipt is asked to contact Harbour Grace RCMP. The investigation continues.
