Don’t expect any big celebrations to mark Canada Day this year.
Many public gatherings to mark Canada’s birthday are not going ahead this year. That includes municipal fireworks displays.
Instead, municipalities are asking residents to mark the occasion privately with small family celebrations, or virtually.
Health Minister Dr. John Haggie shared some advice on celebrating Canada Day or Memorial Day during the provincial COVID-19 update yesterday.
He says the province needs to celebrate with care.
Haggie says, “COVID will not disappear because you had your second beer.”
Meanwhile, many services are not going ahead in the capital city on the Canada Day/Memorial Day holiday.
Garbage and recycling will not be picked up and the Robin Hood Bay Waste Management facility is closed.
Parking regulations will not be enforced. Park facilities will be open, but users must abide by social distancing rules.
Public washrooms will be open at Bannerman Park, Bowring Park and Quidi Vidi, while outdoor pools are set to reopen tomorrow with certain restrictions in place.
