The owner of the Newfoundland Growlers is taking on a second ECHL franchise.
Dean MacDonald has signed a long-term lease agreement with the city of Trois-Rivières, Quebec, for a brand new arena.
The lease is up to 15 years and includes supplying the hockey, concessions, and entertainment. MacDonald says it’s the deal they were originally hoping for with the capital city. They’re now working with the ECHL for a franchise and hope to have a team on the ice for the 2021-22 season.
MacDonald says it’s good news for the Growlers, and should help with travel costs. They have subsidized teams coming in which extends from Brampton to St. John’s, and now with Quebec that subsidy should be reduced.
