Newfoundland and Labrador’s electric vehicle charging network will see 14 new charging stations spanning the TCH from St. John’s to Port aux Basques.
The federal and provincial governments will contribute a combined $1.77-million to the first phase of the project.
President of NL Hydro, Jennifer Williams, says adding infrastructure helps remove the barrier that stops many people from buying electric vehicles.
Williams says this initial phase of adding 14 charging stations is a great start. She hopes to see the network expand further across the province in the future.
Co-Founder of Drive Electric NL, Jon Seary, says the new infrastructure will allow for more affordable electric vehicles to be adopted in the province.
Seary says around 50 charging stations would be needed to cover the whole province adequately. He says it is costly to implement these changes and needs to be done in phases.
