A man arrested in the standoff in Appleton yesterday has been charged with numerous firearms offenses.
Thirty-six-year-old Randy Pope of Appleton is in court today for the unlawful use of a firearm, as a portion of the town was shut down for several hours.
He was charged with—among other things—three counts of assault with a weapon, three counts of pointing a firearm, uttering threats, and careless use of a firearm.
RCMP first got a call at about 7:20 a.m. that somebody had pointed a firearm at another person. Officers tracked a suspect to a house in the River Road area.
At first, he refused to exit—so people in the immediate area were evacuated from their homes, while others were asked to remain inside.
RCMP remain on scene, and the investigation is continuing.
