A Canadian company has proposed a 200-unit off-campus student apartment building.
The application before council seeks permission for high-density apartment buildings to be constructed in an area off Lambe’s Lane in St. John’s.
The lot is located next to the university close to the Aquarena.
The application was not yet approved by council, but the decision was made to consider the application.
Councillor Maggie Burton says the next major step is to host a digital public meeting where people can submit their thoughts by email or mail.
She is happy to see Canadian developers look to filling in the gaps in appropriate student off-campus housing.
Burton says sometimes it is hard for students to find apartments – especially when they are new to St. John’s. She is looking forward to discussions around how that need can be met.
