A petition to allow parents and guardians of kindergarten students to attend their child’s first day of school has garnered a lot of attention online.
Vanessa Baker’s oldest son is starting kindergarten this year and she started the petition in hopes of changing the school board and government’s minds.
Baker says that there are different ways that it could be accommodated including having staggered first days for kindergarten.
She says it is an important day that could shape the rest of the child’s student life.
She says she has had a huge response to her petition and most of the responses are from parents of children who have already graduated Kindergarten.
Baker says those parents express the importance of being there on that first day.
Baker says it is a big milestone and students are going to be nervous as it is. She says children are going to worry about being dropped off for seven hours and being there with them usually helps.
