Premier Andrew Furey says the “changemakers,” as he refers to his new cabinet, are the ones to make the tough decisions needed at this time.
Furey created new departments and brought in three new faces – Sarah Stoodley, Elvis Loveless and Derek Bennett – while saying goodbye to Christopher Mitchelmore and Sherry Gambin-Walsh.
He says his team will redefine Newfoundland and Labrador now and into the future, and his government will be transparent – no bull.
He says to expect straight-up answers to questions. No rhetoric, just reality. And he says sometimes the answer might be, “I don’t know the answer.”
He plans to bring in a budget in a few weeks and to seek a seat in the Legislature as soon as possible. He says he had a great time on the weekend in Gros Morne. Former Premier Dwight Ball is the MHA for Humber-Gros Morne and it wouldn’t surprise anyone if he stepped aside to create a by-election.
Despite it Not Being Its Own Department, Premier Promises More Resources for Status of Women

The Status of Women is no longer its own department, but the new Premier says he will be adding resources to it.
Lisa Dempster takes over the responsibility along with Labrador and Indigenous Affairs. She is also the deputy house leader.
Premier Andrew Furey indicates that women’s issues will be front and centre with additional resources.
He says he has had good conversations with good women candidates.
Tom Osborne Beginning Briefings for New Role as Education Minister

The new education minister will be in a better position in few days to discuss the controversial back-to-school plan which, as it stands, will leave thousands of students having to find their own way to school.
Tom Osborne takes over education from the embattled Brian Warr, who took flak for not being at the news conference Monday when the return to school was outlined.
Osborne says he will be in briefings with department officials and in touch with school districts and be in a better position to comment come Monday.
