$25,000 is going to the Canadian Cancer Society’s Daffodil Place courtesy of one local charity.
A Dollar A Day Foundation, led by co-founders Alan Doyle and Brendan Paddick, presented a $25,000 cheque to Daffodil Place from their COVID-19 Relief Fund, which Director of Revenue Development, Al Pelley says will help cover the costs associated with approximately 300 nights.
Pelley says nation-wide they’re looking at revenue losses of $80-100 million. He estimates local losses of about $1.6 million. Pelley says the donation gives people peace of mind and can help them focus on getting well.
A Dollar A Day created a COVID Relief Fund in response to a need; a need Brendan Paddick calls “a widespread mental health crisis which would inevitably evolve over the course of the pandemic”. They have raised over $550,000 for the fund since March.
Alan Doyle says the impacts of battling cancer comes with huge stress and anxiety, which can take a toll on a patient’s mental health, especially with the additional challenges of adapting to the new normal. Doyle says if they can help ease this stress with funding, then they’ve done what they set out to do.
