Provincial government officials are on the ready, monitoring an approaching weather system that could result in flash flooding in some parts of the province.
Rainfall warnings are in place for most of the south coast from Port aux Basques to the Burin Peninsula and southeastern Labrador.
Environment Canada meteorologist, Julianna Paul, explains that those rainfall amounts could be near the triple digits. From Port Aux Basques to Connaigre they are expecting 60 to 80 mm, except upwards of 100 mm in some areas. The Burin Peninsula could see upwards of 50 mm.
Rainfall amounts for the St. John’s area are much lower, with between 10 and 20 mm expected.
The province is asking municipalities and local service districts to review their emergency management plans and ensure that ditches and drains are clear of debris.
