The Chair of Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador is meeting this week with federal minister Melanie Jolie as part of an economic roundtable in hopes of learning more about possible assistance for the tourism industry.

The sector has been especially hard-hit by COVID-19 and while staycations have helped, for many it hasn’t been enough to keep the wolf from the door.

Steve Denty says they’re looking at incentives like tax credits to encourage travel within Canada, as well as stimulus funding.

Denty says he’s open to hearing more from the federal minister.

He’s curious to see what the federal government is planning in terms of support for an industry that’s been “crushed.”
