It was once a neighbourhood known for attracting negative attention—now it’s hoped the Tessier Place area of St. John’s will become an urban haven for growing fruit—an initiative that’s the first of its kind in the capital city.
The Tessier Neighbourhood Association has been working hard to beautify the area and use open space for the production of various fruits and berries.
A map of the area shows varieties like kiwi, grapes, cherries, apples, pears, plums, and blackberries scattered among the homes and open spaces.
An official ceremony is planned for Saturday, September 26th featuring various government officials and representatives of Tree Canada.
