A raucous session in the House of Assembly yesterday over interim supply and the three months being allotted for budget debate and estimates.
Opposition Finance Critic Tony Wakeham grilled Finance Minsiter Siobhan Coady, repeatedly asking why a three-month interim supply is necessary.
Wakeham accused the Liberals of trying to trigger an election, but Coady fired back.
She says the people of Newfoundland and Labrador do not want an election, saying residents are worried about their jobs and COVID. She accused the Opposition of playing politics, among shouts and catcalls from both sides of the house.
Liberals and PCs Debate Over Plans for Offshore

Meanwhile, Coady accused the Opposition Leader of being “disingenuous” when asking if the Liberal plan for offshore jobs involves the decommissioning of platforms.
Coady defended government’s efforts in growing the offshore industry over the last five years. She says government has a “very strong” offshore plan, approved of and developed with members of the industry. She accused the Opposition Leader of being late to the game.
Ches Crosbie questioned Energy Minister Andrew Parsons on the federal Liberal plan for offshore oil and gas—something that is still being hammered out in Ottawa.
Crosbie says he’s heard that the Trudeau Liberals are offering Husky $500-million to shut down work, but Minister Parsons says he has “absolutely no idea” what the Opposition Leader is talking about. He says the province has been working on getting projects back up and running and putting people back to work.
