A 71-year-old Bay Roberts man was arrested for impaired driving after getting his van stuck on a popular walking trail.
RCMP were called early Wednesday afternoon that a van appeared to be stuck in the are of French’s Cove on the Mad Rock walking trail.
The anonymous caller indicated that the driver, who they suspected was impaired, was looking for help to get the vehicle, with a passenger on board, back on the trail.
Police found the vehicle just off the trail and took the driver—who they say appeared severely impaired—to the detachment where he provided breath samples that were nearly three times the legal limit.
The accused was scheduled to appear in court at a later date. His van was seized and impounded, and the driver’s licence was suspended.
