Police on the West Coast have had their hands full the past 24 hours.
A vehicle and tools were stolen from a business in the Humbermouth area overnight Wednesday. Early last evening, the RNC spotted the vehicle, a 2011 four-door Kia Rio, licence plate HTR 154, on Wellington Street. They tried to stop the car, but the driver floored it and was last seen heading east on Main Street. Police did not pursue.
Just after midnight, the RNC were patrolling the North Shore Highway near the Hughes Brook hill when a Honda Civic going almost twice the 50 km/h speed limit zoomed by. RNC flashed their lights but the vehicle failed to stop. It was later found in the ditch in Irishtown-Summerside. The driver, a 22-year-old man, was arrested without incident. He will appear in court in December.
Meanwhile, RNC were called out to O’Connell Drive in Corner Brook at about 4:00 this morning. A stolen vehicle crashed near the Bowater Park Bridge. That area of O’Connell Drive was closed for several hours but has since reopened.
⚠️UPDATE⚠️ Corner Brook Region – O’Connell Drive is now open to #nltraffic. #ThankYou for your cooperation. Have a safe and healthy Friday! #YourRNC
