The province’s brain injury association is trying to make helmet use more top-of-mind with its awareness campaign: Save Your Brain NL.
Erin Guilfoyle, the Coordinator of Programs and Services with the association, says the number of head injuries and deaths linked to ATVs this year underscores the timing and importance of the awareness campaign.
She says there have been almost a dozen deaths so far this year related to ATV accidents—most of the people involved were not wearing helmets—something she states is unfortunate given how preventable that is.
The helmet campaign includes a drawing contest for kids and wraps up with a community ride on October 17.
