The capital city has unveiled its plans for the reinstatement of parking pay stations in the downtown starting next month.

The city had to abandon the use of parking meters after they were regularly targeted by thieves who were lobbing off the tops of the meters to get to the small change inside.

Back in 2018, the city estimated that the damage had cost them some $1.1-million in revenue.

Earlier this year the city implemented two-hour parking limits in parts of the downtown after the meters were removed.

A total of 24 pay stations will be installed on Water Street between Queen Street and Ayre’s Cove and on Duckworth between Prescott and Cochrane. Paid parking will be enforced in those areas starting Monday, November 16, after the stations are installed.
