An operator says the local tourism industry is in crisis due to the pandemic and one local operator has come up with a plan to help encourage more visitors from the Atlantic Bubble next season.
John Fisher, co-owner of the Fisher’s Loft in Port Rexton, says the local market cannot support a tourism industry which is 60 to 80 per cent dependent on out-of-province visitors.
With little to no relief in sight, Fisher is suggesting that the province immediately launch a marketing campaign in the other Atlantic provinces to promote fall bookings for next summer.
He says next year has already started and this is the time to get bookings in for the summer season. Fisher says they normally have about 700 bookings by Christmas for the following season.
Fisher also suggests bringing in financial incentives from the government, based on proven purchases, to encourage visitors to spend their money on travel, car rentals, accommodations and meals.
