The Innu Nation has written Premier Andrew Furey expressing their “extreme disappointment” with his decision not to remove Perry Trimper from caucus.
Premier Furey earlier this week indicated that Trimper’s political career was over and he was satisfied that the MHA had removed himself from all government duties and decided not to run again.
Trimper will stay on as MHA for Lake Melville until the next general election and remains a member of the Liberal caucus.

The Innu Nation had been seeking Trimper’s complete removal after comments made earlier this month in responding to the arrest of an Inuk elder in Happy Valley-Goose Bay. It was the second such incident involving Trimper. Last year he had to apologize for comments he made that were accidentally left on a member of the Innu Nation’s voice mail.
The Innu Nation issued an open letter to the Premier this week saying systemic racism causes great harm, and it is perpetuated when harm has occurred and no action is taken.
They are seeking a response to their letter and are open to meeting with the premier on the matter.
