A child care advocate is worried that $25 a day daycare may leave day homes out, reducing access to childcare.
Gillian Pearson is with Parents for Affordable Childcare. She was responding to a regulated day home operator in Witless Bay who says she must reduce the rate she charges families in order for them to qualify for the government program.
Pearson says a lot of day homes are in the same position as Kendra Harrigan and she says that will only make it more difficult for operators. She says the government is asking women to do the same amount of work for less money.
Governments must make it more attractive to provide quality daycare spaces for children and infants says Pearson, she doesn’t want them doing that for less money than they were before.
