Mother Nature painted parts of the island white overnight and this morning with the region’s first snowfall.
Newfoundland Power is scrambling after blustery weather resulted in outages in several areas, particularly central and eastern Newfoundland and along with parts of the northeast coast.
Many schools in central and eastern did not open for classes this morning.
David Neal, a Meteorologist with Environment Canada, says about 27 cm fell in the Gander area with varying amounts elsewhere.
Winds in the airport town whipped the snow around but they were even higher elsewhere, especially coastal areas.
Bonavista peaked at 104 km/h , Grates Cove 94 km/h, Twillingate 93 km/h, and Gander 60-70 km/h.
