A rink attendant who has been hailed as a hero for saving a skater’s life a few weeks ago was reunited with the man he helped save yesterday.
The last time Ray Martin laid eyes on Larry Manning, he was being put into the back of an ambulance.
After Manning suffered a heart attack at the Twin Rinks, Martin—assisted by coworker Marcel Ledrew—worked for 10 minutes to save the skater’s life.
Yesterday, for the first time since that fateful day, Manning got to see those two men face-to-face, and thank them personally.
Martin and Manning embraced immediately. With tears in their eyes, the men recounted those scary moments.
Martin recalls thinking about stopping but knew that he had to keep going.
Manning and his wife, Sheila, gave their heroes a few gifts, including Superman face masks, a shadow box filled with news clippings of coverage of the events, and a goalie trophy inscribed with “Ray’s Best Save Ever.”
Though he was still wincing in pain from the chest compressions, Manning insists he will skate once again and says he can’t say thank you enough.
