Pressure is mounting against a major industrial complex proposed for the Long Pond area of CBS.
OCI is proposing a five-story building and up to 12 acres of in-fill in the harbour. No environmental assessment is required for the project.
Sean is a resident of CBS whose property faces the water. He told VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly it feels like the project is “a done deal before it started.”
Sean says there are simply too many questions surrounding the enormous industrial complex.
He doesn’t think people understand the “massive scale” of what the company is planning to do in the harbour. 1.7 hectares converts to 4.2 acres which is about equivalent to the size of the Costco parking lot. Sean says the project was kept “hush-hush” for two years before the public became aware of it.
He says further questions about the overall size of the development were raised for Blaine Sullivan of OCI at a recent public meeting.
Sullivan was asked about the 12.6 acres water lot the company acquired for one dollar, yet the plan only shows 4.2 acres of development. He says Sullivan responded that in future they plan to fill in the rest of the area to accommodate a second 300 foot wharf and an estuary area that will be filled in.)
Sean wonders why if the plan is to fill in the entire 12 acres, then why are they only discussing the 4.2?
