A local mother-daughter duo is launching a new campaign to develop a fashion accessory with a green, social enterprise purpose.
Kim Hickman and her daughter Katie Thompson have created DIOSA Designs, a company focused on creating products through sustainable practices, while empowering women in third world countries.
They’ve come up with the Kickstarter campaign, the funds of which will help them develop their new collection on a large scale.
They were able to achieve 20 per cent of their fundraising goal in the first three days of the campaign alone.
They developed what they call a socially conscious, environmentally sustainable high-end tote affectionately dubbed “Maya.”
Hickman and Thompson chose the name following a visit to Guatemala where they made lasting connections.
DIOSA employs local weavers at Guatemalan empowerment centres.
