The giant Christmas tree at the heart of a recent dispute between businessman Danny Williams and the City of St. John’s has been donated to neighbouring Mount Pearl.
Dewcor donated the tree, originally erected at the centre of one of the roundabouts leading to Galway, after the capital city indicated that it had been erected without a permit.
The concern was that the tree could be a traffic hazard.
Mount Pearl will now use the 30-foot tree as the feature element of a Christmas light display at St. David’s Park intended – according to Mayor Dave Aker – to create a little Christmas spirit for all to enjoy.
The park will feature tree lights donated by the Rossiter family in memory of their son John a former Mount Pearl Youth of the Year.
The virtual launch of the display will take place this Sunday at 6:00 p.m.
