The Royal Canadian Mounted Police has announced the launch of the RCMP Black Engagement Steering Committee.
The committee is made up of 13 members representing both the force and the black community, and is chaired by RCMP Assistant Commissioner Ches Parsons, and co-chaired by Dr. Lloydetta Quaicoe.
Its focus right now is on the recruitment of members of the black community to the force, with Parsons noting they only have one black member in the province currently, who is serving in Labrador.
Dr. Loydetta Quaicoe says many open and frank discussions have been held over the last few months, specifically aroubd barriers being faced. She says assistant commissioner Ches Parsons has opened many doors, literally and figuratively @VOCMNEWS pic.twitter.com/mx66AUJ2zf
