Two more people have died in ATV crashes in the past 24 hours.
The fatalities come one week after the RCMP launched a blitz aimed at stemming the number of ATV-related deaths in the province.
The latest incidents occurred in Placentia and Forteau, Labrador. The latter occurred just after 5 p.m. Monday when RCMP got a call about a man trapped under his machine. The victim was attempting to load the ATV onto the back of a truck when it fell back on him.
Then shortly before 3 a.m. this morning, police received a call about an overturned side-by-side on the old railway bed near Placentia Junction. Two men were left trapped underneath, but the driver was able to get free and call for help. The passenger, however, died at the scene.
RCMP say neither man was wearing a helmet and the victim was not wearing a seatbelt.
The two deaths raise the total of ATV-related deaths in the province this year to 17 in areas policed by the RCMP.
