A ratification vote is scheduled for late May and early June on a revised and renegotiated settlement agreement between the Sheshatshiu and Mushuau Innu First Nations and Hydro Quebec.
A tentative agreement was reached in June of last year to compensate the Innu for harms caused as the result of hydro development at Churchill Falls in response to a court case launched by the Innu Nation in October of 2020.
The initial agreement, which would have included $87 million dollars plus 3 per cent of the Churchill Falls dividend, died when an initial ratification vote failed to gain the 50 per cent voter turnout required.
The Innu Nation says it has listened carfully to its members and believes that the concerns raised have been fairly addressed in a revised agreement.
Information sessions will be held in the coming weeks. The vote will be held in both communities from May 29th to June 1st.
