Canada’s top doctor says vaccinating one of the country’s most at-risk populations will be quite a challenge.
Doctor Theresa Tam admits moving residents from a long-term care centre to a vaccine site is not an easy thing to do.
She suspects the first doses of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine will only be administered to people who can physically be at one of the 14 already-identified delivery sites.
One of the 14 sites is the Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s, but there are long-term care homes scattered throughout the province.
The Health Sciences will receive 1950 doses of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine next week with another shipment coming the following week.
The Pfizer vaccine, produced alongside Germany’s BioNTech, is in the final stages of review by Health Canada.
