The Nunatsiavut Government is asking travellers from outside the province to self-isolate for at least 14 days before travelling from Happy Valley-Goose Bay to the coast of Labrador.
The government says it has received reports of people travelling to some Labrador Inuit communities from other areas of the country, information that is causing panic and fear among residents.
It acknowledges while it has no authority to mandate people to self-isolate before entering the Labrador Inuit Settlement Area, it is asking travellers to respect their wishes.
President Johannes Lampe says they have to do what they can to make sure they keep COVID-19 from entering their communities.
Northern and remote communities are especially vulnerable to outbreaks of illness.
