RCMP have confirmed two people have died as the result of a two-vehicle crash on the Trans Canada Highway on the weekend.
Police say the collision involving a car and a pickup occurred just before noon Saturday near Goobies.
A 20-year-old man, the driver of a car, died at the scene. A 15-year-old girl, a passenger in the pickup, died in hospital on Sunday.
Gander Mayor Percy Farwell offered condolences to the family of Megan Piercey. In a Facebook post, he says “Megan was a well-loved member of our community. To be taken so young affects us all. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends during this time.”
Traffic reconstruction investigators determined that the car crossed over the solid line into the path of the oncoming pickup.
The investigation continues.

The accident happened shortly before noon on Saturday.
A 20-year-old man, who was the lone occupant of one vehicle, died at the scene while a teenaged girl who was in the second vehicle succumbed to her injuries in hospital.
Traffic in the area was backed up for several hours.
RCMP continue to investigate.
