A local animal shelter is holding a pet food and donation drive leading up to Wednesday to help get them through Christmas and the winter months ahead.
Jessica Rendell, director at Heavenly Creatures, says animal rescue is always hard but the need has been amplified during the pandemic.
She says when the municipal animal shelters shut down in March, they began receiving an increased number of requests for help—whether that be getting animals off the street or helping out pet owners financially.
They currently have $21,000 in vet bills they haven’t paid yet, plus they’ll need money to help get them through what she calls the “lean” winter fundraising months.
Rendell says they’re looking for all kinds of donations. They don’t receive government funding, so the three big things they are looking for are monetary donations to cover vet bills, wet cat food, and litter.
