Newfoundland and Labrador is reporting three new cases of COVID-19 since the last update on Christmas Eve.
Two of the cases are in the Eastern Health region. One involves a man in his 40s who returned to the province from work in Alberta. He is reportedly self-isolating and contact tracing is completed. To that end, anyone who was on Flight 7480 from Montreal to St. John’s on December 22 is asked to call 811 for testing.
The second confirmed case in the Eastern Health region is a woman between 20 and 39 years old. Officials say that case is still under investigation to determine the source of the infection.
The third new case involves a man in his 50s in the Western Health region and is also travel-related. The man returned to the province from work in Alberta, is self-isolating, and contact tracing is finished.
Newfoundland and Labrador has 21 active cases of COVID-19 and there have been three recoveries since the last advisory.
One person is in hospital due to the virus.
New Variant
Meanwhile, two more cases of the new COVID-19 variant have been detected in Canada.
Health officials have identified the strain in Ottawa and on Vancouver Island.
Both of the new cases had recently returned from the United Kingdom.
