Two players from this province are being praised for their performance in Team Canada’s Saturday night blowout win against Germany at the World Junior Hockey Championship.
Dawson Mercer set a single-game record for most points by a Newfoundlander in a World Junior game with four, while Alex Newhook had three points of his own.
TSN analyst and former Calgary Flames GM Craig Button applauded the pair for their efforts.
Button lauded Mercer for his versatility on and off the ice.
Button says that Mercer can play anywhere in the lineup. He noted that Mercer is a talented musician who can play many different instruments, which is something that translates to his hockey ability.
Button also highlighted Newhook’s abilities following his performance against Germany.
He says Newhook is very gifted offensively and makes his linemates better with his creative playmaking.
Canada defeated Slovakia 3-1 last night. Its next game is Tuesday night vs. Switzerland.
