Residents of the Avalon and Burin peninsulas are waking up to the first snowfall of 2021 with about five centimetres on the ground and more on the way throughout Sunday.
Environment Canada is calling for a total accumulation of about 10 centimetres before the snow turns to flurries this afternoon.
It’ll also be whipped around by easterly winds gusting to 50 kilometres per hour before things settle down this evening.
Meteorologist Savio Paul is with the Gander weather office. He says Burin has already received the bulk of the 10 centimetres but the Avalon is in for about another five centimetres as the system moves away from the island.
Temperatures will remain steady around minus 1 today with a wind chill near minus 9 degrees tonight.
