Prime Minister Justin Trudeau calls the actions of rioters an “assault on democracy” following an insurrection this week in Washington, D.C.
Leading his public address yesterday afternoon, Trudeau accused President Donald Trump of instigating the violence.
He calls the events at the Capitol Building “an assault on democracy by violent rioters, incited by the current president and other politicians.”

While he acknowledges the shocking nature of the events that unfolded on Wednesday, Trudeau says the resilience of American democracy was also made visible.
He stated, “Violence has no place in our societies, and extremists will not succeed in overruling the will of the people.”
However, Trudeau stressed the need for vigilance, as similar acts of violence could occur in Canada.
