Police have confirmed that a 73-year-old woman was killed in a vehicle-pedestrian accident in the west end of St. John’s Friday night.
It happened near the intersection of Forbes Street and Topsail Road. Police say the woman died a short time later in hospital.
Former St. John’s city councillor Jonathan Galgay has since identified the victim as his mother, Frances Galgay.

Harvey’s Home Heating issued a statement last night indicating that one of its trucks was involved in a vehicle-pedestrian accident on Topsail Road. The company says it is cooperating fully in the police investigation while a separate, internal investigation is underway.
The RNC has located another vehicle linked to the accident. The vehicle was believed to have left the area before first responders arrived.
Frances Galgay was the wife of well-known barber Gus Galgay who passed away in 2011.
