Voter turnout at the Advance Polls was way up yesterday over the 2019 general election.

Over 33,500 votes were cast in the Advance Poll compared to 21,289 in 2019. The voter turnout for the Advance Poll in Torngat Mountains could not be transmitted yesterday evening due to weather.

The highest turnouts were in Topsail-Paradise, Virginia Waters-Pleasantville, Windsor Lake and Ferryland.

The demand for mail-in ballots was also higher this time around.

Voters tell VOCM News they had no issues with COVID regulations in place at the Advance Polls yesterday.

At Prince of Wales Collegiate in the Mount Scio district, voters entered through one door and – after sanitizing their hands – were guided by arrows down two hallways to the school gymnasium.

After a voter cast their ballot, they exited the school through a different door.
