The City of St. John’s has announced further closures to help stop the spread of COVID-19.
In accordance with the amended special measures order announced yesterday, the city has put in place a number of restrictions including:
- All Recreation Centres are closed. (Please note: the post office at Shea Heights Community Centre will remain open.)
- All after-school programs are cancelled.
- The Access Centre will close to the public for drop-in service; online services are available.
- Drop-in services at the Permit Counter are discontinued. Online applications are still being received and processed, or you can call 576-8565 or email permits@stjohns.ca to apply or to book an appointment time.
- The Railway Coastal Museum is closed.
- Pippy Park trails will continue to be groomed, however, the Winter Activity Centre at Northbank Lodge is closed for rentals.
- The Loop will remain open; please ensure you are maintaining safe distancing and following all posted guidelines.
Mount Pearl has closed City facilities, including City Hall, the Summit Centre (fitness centre and pool), and the Glacier arena, which will remain closed to the public until further notice.
The following parks and outdoor recreation spaces are open:
- All walking trails throughout the City
- St. David’s Park
- Mount Pearl Dog Park
- Public tennis courts
- Fields, courts, and the skate park are all open. Provincial guidelines for preventing the spread of COVID-19 must be followed, including keeping proper distance from others, frequent hand washing, and covering coughs/sneezes.
- Playgrounds are open. The city asks that people bring their own hand sanitizer and remember to practice proper hand hygiene following the use of city play facilities.

The Town of Paradise advises that effective immediately, all town facilities are closed to the public, including the Town Hall and Paradise Double Ice Complex. The Town is taking this measure to support Public Health guidelines to help contain the spread of COVID-19. Facilities will remain closed to the public until February 26, 2021, at which time the town will re-evaluate the current public health situation.
While facilities are closed, town services are on-going and staff are available via phone and email. The main town phone line 782-1400, the main town recreation phone line 782-6290, and general email info@paradise.ca, are monitored and staff will be available to respond to all inquiries.
Overview of Town Operations:
- Essential, core, and business continuity services are on-going (including water testing, snow/ice control, municipal enforcement, and garbage collection);
- The main phone line 782-1400 and email info@paradise.ca are monitored and staff will respond to inquiries;
- Curbside garbage and recycling collection is on-going as per the 2021 Garbage Collection Schedule;
- Public Council Meetings are proceeding on a regular schedule (first and third Tuesday of the month) via webcasting;
- All recreational programming is suspended; and
- Paradise Park, the various trails, and outdoor play areas in Town are available for use; residents are asked to practice physical distancing and all public health guidelines.
