“We’re ready to go.”
Local businessman John Steele is ready to move forward with plans to expand the JAG hotel in the west end of the capital city’s downtown.
Steele acknowledges that the local hotel industry has been battered by COVID-19, but “this too will pass.”
Steele purchased a portion of Buchanan Street and some of the surrounding buildings for the expansion but had to put those plans on hold when the pandemic struck.
“Downtown needs a lift,” he says, and thinks the expansion is part of the solution in moving the downtown forward.
The expansion includes a number of features Steele thinks will be exciting additions to the area.
It includes an extra 85 rooms, a 140 seat lounge, and expansion of the existing restaurant, a fitness centre and spa, coffee shop, VIP floor with a lounge, and a “state-of-the-art” two-storey multi-purpose venue to accommodate concerts of up to 1500 people and receptions for 1000.
