Anyone gassing up today is in for a jolt in the pocketbook.
All types of gasoline skyrocketed by 10 cents at midnight while diesel fuel went down by about 3 cents. Furnace and stove oil also drop – by about 2 1/2 cents.
The latest round boosts regular unleaded gas on the Avalon Peninsula back up to $2.25 per litre.
The next price adjustment by the Public Utilities Board comes Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Energy Minister Tim Hodgson says Canada will co-operate with the G-7 by co-ordinating maintenance schedules for oil refineries to prevent too many from going off-line at the same time.
This comes as G-7 countries announced they will release 100-million barrels of oil in an attempt to tame soaring global fuel prices.
A spokesperson from Hodgon’s office says Canada’s diesel refineries are all operating near capacity.
