People traveling to and from Bell Island are experiencing significant delays.
Travelers are reporting long lineups on both sides of the crossing, with wait times of up to four hours.
Two ferries, the Beaumont Hamel and the Flanders, are sailing the route and are following the Alert Level 2 schedule.
However, with 300 to 400 people commuting daily, Wabana Bell Island Mayor Gary Gosine says the schedule is not meeting the needs of the people.
He says the schedule was based on last year’s crossing numbers, which were affected by the pandemic and no longer reflect the demand for ferry service.
