A special presentation is planned for Woodland Primary in Grand Falls-Windsor today for a local student who recently won the RCMP’s Name the Puppy contest.
Each year, children are invited to offer suggestions for the RCMP’s latest batch of K9 trainees.
Eight-year-old Peyton Short chose the name Peyton because he loves German Shepherds and he “thought it would be cool” to have a police dog named after him.
Police Puppy Peyton is now in training.
His name was one of 13 chosen from among over 20,000 entries received from across the country.
Peyton is involved in the Exploits Youth Bowling Canada League, plays basketball and loves the Dogman and Catkid series of books.
He will be presented with a special prize package from RCMP Superintendent David Cook, District Officer West and Corporal Richard Bushey and Police Service Dog Kane during a ceremony at Woodland Primary this afternoon at 1:30.
