A brand new mental health space will soon be constructed in Bowring Park, giving people a quiet space to reflect and connect with nature.
The space is called a labyrinth, and according to the city, it’s a flat surface with a pathway that users can follow to get to its center, and then use that same pathway to exit.
The labyrinth will be built at a cost of over $200,000. The Cahill Family Foundation has donated $125,000 towards the project, while the remaining cost will be split between the Bowring Park Foundation and the city.
Sandy Hickman, who is council’s representative on the foundation, says such a facility has great mental health benefits for users.
He says it will be a quiet space to help with people’s peace of mind. He explains it will be located in the west end of Bowring Park and will be surrounded by trees.
Construction is slated to start immediately, and it’s hoped that the labyrinth will be finished before the end of summer.
