The Minister of Immigration, Population Growth, and Skills expressed the provincial government’s solidarity with the Muslim community and condemned the horrific, targeted attack on a Muslim family in London, Ontario over the weekend.
The attack claimed the lives of a grandmother, mother, father, and daughter, and sent a young boy to hospital with serious injuries.
Minister Gerry Byrne called it an attack of “cowardice and evil.”
He acknowledged the Muslim community’s worry for their safety and offered reassurances that they are valued, respected, and supported.
The President of Newfoundland and Labrador Muslim Community, Dr. Mansoor Pirzhada says the murderous London attack is part of a shocking and terrorizing trend.
He says members of the local Muslim community have experienced racial slurs in public places like malls.
He calls the London attack very distressing, and it’s had a profound effect on community members’ feeling of safety and well-being.
