The provincial government has approved a revision to the Conception Bay South Municipal Planning Boundary.
The issue arose following a decision of the Eastern Newfoundland Regional Appeal Board that led to uncertainty over the town’s authority to regulate certain developments in Long Pond.
It stems from Ocean Choice International’s plans for a major industrial development in the Long Pond area. That uncertainty prevented the town from issuing permits for new residential and commercial developments in the area. Council sought clarification from the provincial government on the matter. The change expands the town’s authority to consider development applications within Long Pond Harbour from residents and businesses.
The town will continue to pursue its appeal to the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador to have additional concerns resolved.
